I’ve noticed a few things here in Gothenburg. First is, station wagons are very popular. I have seen just a few trucks and even less full size vans (think Honda Odyssey). It seems that they prefer station wagons for their convenience but also relatively small size.
They also drive more diesels than we do. They actually have to switch to winter tires by December 1st, so they are everywhere and noticeably louder.
As far as the bikes go, its clearly a legitimate transport option for the masses. I have noticed a few things. First, E-Bikes are gaining popularity quickly. There are a ton around the city. Second, many of the bikes use lower maintenance parts like Shimano’s internally geared Nexus hub or a single speed drivetrain, which has very little moving parts. I also notice that the brand Nishiki is fairly popular here (along with Trek).
